In Sudół, near Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, there is an extraordinary place—the Archaeological Museum and Reserve Krzemionki. In the Neolithic period and the early Bronze Age, striped flint mines were exploited here.
The architecture of prehistoric mines and the landscape on the surface are invaluable evidence of the knowledge and technical abilities of peoples from the Stone Age. This unique trace of the past was recognized as a Historic Monument in 1994 for good reason. Krzemionki, together with the Borownia and Korycizna mining fields and the prehistoric mining settlement on the Gawroniec hill in Ćmielów, together form the Krzemionki Region of Prehistoric Striped Flint Mining and were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.

The tourist route in Krzemionki is approximately 1.5 km long and presents a unique mining landscape from over 5,000 years ago. The most interesting part of the route is its several hundred-meter underground section. It allows you to see perfectly preserved prehistoric mining galleries. When visiting the Krzemionki mines, you have a unique opportunity to see places that have not changed much since flint nodules were extracted from them several thousand years ago. The underground tourist route in Krzemionki is the only such facility in the world open to the general public!

In Krzemionki, you can also visit museum exhibitions and a reconstruction of a prehistoric settlement. The multimedia exhibition „Masters of Flint” presents the functioning of Neolithic mines and the times in which their creators lived and worked.

In the area of the Archaeological Museum and Krzemionki Reserve, there is also a nature reserve, „Krzemionki Opatowskie.” There are 39 species of rare and protected plants. This area is also a refuge for many species of animals.
